“Payola, in the music industry, is the illegal practice of paying a commercial radio station to play a song without the station disclosing the payment. Under U.S. law, a radio station must disclose songs they were paid to play on the air as sponsored airtime. "
Things I don’t get. Radio stations can play what they want and can influence the charts with the songs they prefer to play for free rather than playing what we want to hear. Hot 100 or Top 40 it doesn’t matter. Maybe that what people who pay for commercials do. “Play this song we want to hear” and influence the world and we will advertise on your station. I’m sorry Alan Freed that they had to move your ashes from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame where it really belongs to some place nobody is going to take a trip and go see. And then bring in Beyonce’s leotards to show to the public. Why? I can’t believe Cleveland doesn’t even have a street or building named after him. At least put a statue of him in downtown Cleveland. What’s wrong with Cleveland?

Does a disc jockey in Id actually play discs? A medieval lute player speaking about a disc jockey is another of this strip’s wonderful anachronisms.

In the 50s….there was no law against Payola…my dad was called to Congress. Also, it’s disc….with a “C” jockey.

Sure it will be a hit as Disk Jockeys were the guys who decided which records would be played. In other words the fix is in.

It was VERY important to take enough in “payola” to pay for a good lawyer.
