I seem to recall Mark Twain warning us not to let our schooling interfere with our education…..

I got no degree credit for participating in some Vietnam era university building take-overs. But I did learn quite a bit about myself, and about how (not) to run a meeting. Roberts Rules of Order had NOT been a book I thought I’d get any value from. I was wrong.

And I found out how… PROFESSIONAL the administration was. They took our youthful enthusiasm and just played us until we stopped bothering them. I’m still in awe (retrospectively).

I would think they don’t get credit. They have their hands full avoiding a criminal record.

What, deprive poor Rep. Stefanik of another opportunity to grandstand?

Looks a lot like the Boomers during the Vietnam protests. And the comments surrounding them sound familiar, too.

Concretionist… when i came home and flew into NYC in 1970, you weren’t my freind then, now decades later you and all the other leftover hippies think you can make it all goody goody with hollow, empty words of excuses. to cite a great patriot, John Stuart Mill, you are free BECAUSE of the service of men better than yourselves.

If you want to protest, go to Washington. Universities do not determine national policies.

They should have listened. It would have saved a lot of lives and limbs. It might have avoided the Kent State massacre.

To be honest, this has nothing whatsoever to do with any American university – least of all the coddling confines of the Ivy League. Where were the protests when Russia invaded Ukraine ? With not the slightest attempt to minimize civilian casualties? And don’t kid yourselves- if you don’t like Biden, there’s only one alternative- and it’s infinitely worse!

Addendum: nothing you do on Yale’s campus will have the slightest impact on either Hamas’ or Israel’s behavior. You can only harm Biden – and help Trump. This isn’t Vietnam, and you ain’t gonna get drafted. Might as well go back to studying.

The establishment freaks out after a little protest. ’ain’t seen nothing like this since the 60’s’.

A good education should prepare students to get a good job. It appears many students and universities have lost their way.

Bob Kraft, the billionaire football toad, was on TV, almost crying about his Alma Mater, Columbia and the kids protesting. Well Bob, that’s what you get, when you teach young people to think for themselves and introduce the kids to the ideas of great men and woman.

Bob’s not the only billionaire crybaby making threats against the kids and the schools. No surprise, really.

Students may not get credit for their demonstrations, but they learn a lot from the experience.

I am disappointed by this cartoon from one of my favorite cartoonists. He does include the full context of the discussion but then provides a very negative commentary. The serious professors commenting, many of whom ARE Jewish, recognize a difference between protesting the illegitimate actions of a state or group and protesting an entire people. The STATE of Israel does not represent all, or even most Jews, after this war. And the state of Gaza as run by HAMAS does NOT represent the Palestinians forced to live and now die in Gaza. The right-wing cared not on bit about young white men shouting ‘Jews will not replace us" until it became a political expedient thing to mindlessly support the STATE of Israel and condemns all who don’t as anti-Semites. THIS is the reality that students are rightfully protesting.

Genocide to fight against genocide-and the sides line up. And the “authorities” react as always.

Maybe not graduate credit, but at Columbia you force all students to take their classes online for the rest of the semester.

Being in the moment and a part of it, is an education in itself. But an education has costs and this one will cost them also. Make sure you put on your resume your actions as part of the problem.

I would have been more impressed by these demonstrations in the West if there had been the same level of passion over:1. The continued slaughter, rape and pillage in Sudan2. The genocidal action and expulsion of the surviving Rohingya in 2016-2017.3. The mass imprisonment of Turkic Muslims in China.4. The systematic continued intimidation, abuse & abduction leading in some cases to death of Women in Iran.5. The levels of violence meted out to the Syrian populations by all sides in the recent Civil Wars.To name just five; the ones which managed to make the headlines (well for a brief time)- By the way all involving Muslim communities.
