To be clear, it’s NOT our relationship. It’s caring for my mother, her home, dealing with relatives (some not so nice) and just STUFF. Thank the good Lord we have each other to hang onto on this ride.
I have learned to make sure she packs her meds. Nothing like getting down the road about 15 miles and having to turn around and go back for something that is necessary.
I am usually packed the day before a trip, especially since I like to leave before 5 am. My wife? She will get up at 4 with me and fumble around and pack at 4:30am. Miraculously, we can get on the road by 5-5:15.
Back when I was in Jr. High, very early 70s, some of the eighth graders were going to go out in the woods behind the school and “smoke grass”. Small country town. One of them had collected grass clippings from his yard and let them dry. They were so sick after a few minutes, puking up lunch, apparently they never paid attention to “Dragnet”.
Funny, this popped up this morning. Last night we had about an hour of hard thunder and lightning. This is the time I got back to sleep, huge “fireworks” show with almost no rain.
For about two months after we had to put my mother in the nursing home, many bouts with insomnia. One morning I had a panic attack and had to go to the ER. Got some meds and therapy. Better now.
